Our Policy and Regulatory work

Back to Further Research

Local councils and central government have a key role to play in bringing New Zealand’s homes to a high level of performance. To that end, we’ve been sharing our research with councils, government departments and ministers:

  • Based on case studies of local councils, we’ve put together a Resource Manual for Local Government with ideas and examples on how to encourage sustainable building.
  • We’re joining industry and government to develop a rating tool for New Zealand’s new and existing houses.
  • We showed how large scale renovation creates jobs in our briefing to the Job Summit.
  • Our report to Government shows there is an economic value case for Government to promote simple sustainable housing innovations.
  • We’ve made submissions to central government and local councils on proposed legislation, policy changes, regional plans and Long Term Council and Community Plans.
  • We’ve reviewed New Zealand’s policy and regulation scene affecting building and renovation to find out how best to influence government.
