Our Water research
The increasing cost and decreasing availability of water supply will require a more efficient and conservation-oriented supply and management approach if New Zealand is to achieve widespread household sustainability. This is the premise on which our water research is based.
Our water research strategy, Reducing the Flow, has a two-pronged approach to reduce water demand from homes (new and existing):
- Water demand management: aims to boost the use of water-saving technologies and encourage greater capture of rainwater – without compromising water quality.
- Integrated water management: looks to improve management of the three waters (supply, waste and storm) at homes and neighbourhoods.
