Supporting research work
Supporting our demonstration projects is Beacon’s core research activity focusing on energy, water, materials and indoor environment quality. These are the areas which Beacon considers are priorities to ‘get it right’ and in which the greatest sustainability improvements can be achieved
Each core area is the focus of a research team, and concentrates on:
- clarifying best practice (e.g. who should do what, when and how, to build/renovate a home so it performs sustainably)
- establishing value cases (e.g. what is the value of warmer, drier homes and to whom?)
- identifying opportunities to innovate, providing tools to support change (e.g. guidelines, checklists, spreadsheet models, specifications etc.)

Working with central and local government
Local councils and central government have a key role to play in bringing New Zealand’s homes to a high level of performance. To that end, we’ve been sharing our research with councils, government departments and ministers.
Beacon’s symposia and other conferences
Beacon’s symposia are an opportunity to share our research and discuss our results with interested stakeholders.
We also present our research at relevant conferences, both in New Zealand and overseas.
Early research
Beacon Pathway Ltd commenced with a Project Confirmation Phase which formed the foundation for Beacon’s later FRST research programme.
Another early standalone research stream was Market Transformation. This was later integrated into each area of research.
