Britain launches a £10m energy efficiency Grand Challenge
The Technology Strategy Board is to launch a new £10m competition for innovative solutions to improve the energy efficiency and environmental performance of the UK’s housing stock. The competition, announced by Prime Minister Gordon Brown, invites proposals for suppliers to design and install innovative technology that will improve the energy efficiency and environmental performance of the UK’s current housing stock. The solutions funded through this programme will establish radical solutions within a whole house package. Companies will be invited to bid for contracts, worth a total of £10 million, to work with social housing providers, refurbishing at least 50 buildings as examples and then evaluating their environmental performance.
