UK Government proposes “Great British refurb”

The UK Government has proposed ambitious plans to improve the energy efficiency of the country’s housing stock designed to ensure that all UK homes have near zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Households will be offered “whole house energy makeovers” to improve their energy efficiency with measures such as ground or air source heat pumps, solar heating, wall insulation and access to a district heating scheme.

According to Energy Secretary, Ed Miliband, “Wasted energy is costing families on average £300 a year, and more than a quarter of all our emissions are from our homes.“
